Author Guidelines
Author Guidelines for ICONHOSTS #6
We invite authors to submit original, unpublished research papers aligned with the conference theme: "Halal Tourism and Hospitality within Global Sustainable Development." To ensure consistency and quality across all published proceedings, please adhere to the following bibliographic and formatting standards.
1. Formatting Standards
All manuscripts must be written in clear, professional English and submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).
Length: 4,000 to 6,000 words (including abstract, tables, figures, and references).
Font: Times New Roman, 12-point font for the main text.
Spacing & Margins: 1.5 line spacing with standard 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
Title Page:
Title: Bold, 14-point font, centered. Keep it concise and informative.
Author Details: Full names, institutional affiliations, and email addresses of all authors. Indicate the corresponding author.
Abstract: 150 to 250 words summarizing the research problem, methodology, key findings, and conclusions.
Keywords: Provide 3 to 5 relevant keywords below the abstract.
Document Structure: We recommend the standard academic structure: Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
2. Bibliographic Standards (APA Style)
ICONHOSTS strictly uses the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style for in-text citations and the reference list. All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and vice versa.
In-Text Citation Examples:
Single author: (Ahmed, 2023) or Ahmed (2023) stated...
Two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2022) or Smith and Jones (2022) found...
Three or more authors: (Lee et al., 2024) or Lee et al. (2024) demonstrated...
Reference List Examples:
Journal Article: Rahman, M., & Hassan, A. (2023). Halal certification in the hospitality industry: A global perspective. Journal of Islamic Tourism, 15(2), 112-128.
Authored Book: Buhalis, D. (2022). Smart tourism: Technology and innovation in the hospitality sector. Routledge.
Chapter in an Edited Book: Widodo, S. (2021). Community resilience in post-crisis tourism. In J. Doe (Ed.), Sustainable Tourism in Southeast Asia (pp. 45-67). Springer.
Conference Proceeding: Al-Farsi, H. (2020). Digitalization of Muslim-friendly travel. Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Hospitality, 88-95.
3. Supplementary Files
To enhance reader engagement, transparency, and the academic impact of your work, authors are highly encouraged to upload supplementary files alongside their main manuscript. These files provide deeper context and allow other researchers to build upon your findings.
Permitted supplementary materials include:
Datasets: Raw or processed data used in the study (preferably in .csv or .xlsx formats) to support transparency and reproducibility.
Research Instruments: Copies of survey questionnaires, interview guides, or observation protocols used to collect data (in .pdf or .docx).
Multimedia: High-resolution images, conceptual diagrams, or short video clips demonstrating a hospital service innovation or smart tourism technology (in .jpg, .png, or .mp4).
Code/Scripts: Analytical scripts (e.g., R, Python, SPSS syntax) used for data analysis, especially for studies falling under the "Digitalization and technology tourism" scope.
Note: All supplementary files should be clearly labeled and referenced within the main text of the manuscript (e.g., "See Supplementary File 1 for the complete survey instrument").
Submission Preparation Checklist
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another conference for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in comments to the Director).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
- All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://pkp.sfu.ca) are activated and ready to click.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which are found in About the Conference.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed track of the conference, authors' names are removed from the submission, with "Author" and year used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of the authors' names, paper title, etc.
- If submitting to peer review, all Microsoft Office documents (including Supplementary Files) have been saved by going to File and selecting Save As; clicking Tools (or Options in a Mac); clicking Security; selecting "Remove personal information from file properties on save"; and clicking Save.
