Peer Review Process
Review Policy
The International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism Studies (ICONHOSTS) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and scientific quality. To ensure that only rigorous, relevant, and original research is presented and published, all manuscript submissions undergo a strict peer-review process.
The Peer Review Process
ICONHOSTS employs a double-blind peer review process. This means that both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous to each other throughout the evaluation.
For Authors: Before submitting, authors must ensure their manuscripts do not contain identifying information (e.g., names and affiliations should only be on the title page, separated from the main text). Upon submission, the editorial committee conducts an initial desk review to check for formatting compliance, thematic relevance, and plagiarism. Manuscripts passing this phase are sent to independent reviewers.
For Readers: Readers can trust that the proceedings of ICONHOSTS contain rigorously vetted research. The double-blind process minimizes bias, ensuring that published papers are evaluated solely on their scientific merit and contribution to the fields of hospitality and tourism.
Number of Reviewers
Each qualifying submission is sent to a minimum of two independent, expert reviewers. In cases where the two reviewers provide highly conflicting recommendations (e.g., one suggests acceptance and the other rejection), a third reviewer or a senior member of the scientific committee will be assigned to adjudicate and make a final recommendation.
Review Criteria
Reviewers are asked to judge submissions based on a comprehensive set of academic criteria, which include:
Relevance to the Conference Theme: Alignment with the scope of ICONHOSTS, specifically the theme of Halal Tourism and Hospitality within Global Sustainable Development.
Originality and Novelty: The contribution of new knowledge, innovative frameworks, or unique data to the field of tourism and hospitality studies.
Methodological Rigor: The appropriateness and reliability of the research design, data collection, and analytical methods used.
Clarity and Structure: The logic of the argument, readability, and adherence to the required APA formatting guidelines.
Significance of Findings: The theoretical and practical implications of the results for academia, industry practitioners, and policymakers.
Review Timeline
We understand that timely feedback is critical for authors. The typical time taken to conduct the review process at ICONHOSTS is 3 to 4 weeks from the date the manuscript passes the initial desk review. Authors will be notified of the decision (Accept, Accept with Minor/Major Revisions, or Reject) immediately upon the conclusion of the review phase. Authors given a "Revise" decision will typically have 2 weeks to submit their updated manuscripts.
Principles for Recruiting Reviewers
The strength of our conference relies heavily on the quality of our reviewers. The ICONHOSTS scientific committee recruits reviewers based on the following principles:
Subject Matter Expertise: Reviewers are selected based on their established academic record and specialized knowledge in specific conference tracks (e.g., Halal tourism, smart tourism, sustainability).
Academic Qualifications: Reviewers generally hold a Ph.D. or have significant, demonstrable research experience in hospitality, tourism, or related disciplines.
Objectivity and Integrity: Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest before accepting a manuscript. We prioritize reviewers known for providing constructive, fair, and objective feedback.
Diversity: We strive to recruit a diverse pool of reviewers representing different academic institutions, geographic regions, and demographic backgrounds to ensure a well-rounded and global evaluation of submissions.
